In 2002 Lise Risom Olsen gathered a group of people to create a project based on a text for theatre, «Cunts Going Knowhere» by Hjoerdis Lehre. In collaboration with two performers from the music scene in Bergen, a interior designer and a sound designer and elecronical muscician the created a pop-performance that reached an audience of both the regular theatregoers and first timers. Some of the crew continued to work together under the name NONcompany, and have created performances since.
In their projects NONcompany has collaborated with actors, performers, musicians, writers, singers, filmmakers, photographers, designers and many others.
NONcompany has also created a row of smaller side projects such as concerts, readings, happenings and smaller performances. These projects are sometimes part of their research, sometimes experiments to try out stuff for bigger projects, and sometimes independent creations.
Through the years NONcompany has developed a characteristic style by largely placing the aesthetic elements on equal footing, and working from a conceptual approach in collective processes. We mostly create our scenic and technical effects ourselves. Due to this, the company’s aesthetic is often described as technological romanticism.
